Kate Middleton’s Alexander McQueen wedding gown wowed spectators at her 2011 wedding to Prince William. It’s probably one of the most iconic royal style moments of the decade.

Queen Elizabeth, 1947

Queen Elizabeth purchased the material for her stunning silk wedding dress with clothing ration coupons. It was designed by Norman Hartnell. On the morning of her wedding, as Princess Elizabeth was getting dressed at Buckingham Palace before leaving for Westminster Abbey, her tiara snapped. Luckily the court jeweller was standing by in case of emergency. The jeweller was rushed to his work room by a police escort.

In 1994 just as Prince Charles’ ITV documentary about the breakdown of his marriage was about to air, Princess Diana was wowing at the Serpentine Gallery in a figure-hugging ruched minidress from Greek designer Christina Stambolian. The next day, every front page was devoted not to the Prince of Wales’s televised confession, but to images of the glowing, confident 32-year-old Diana

Kate Middleton, 2010

Kate Middleton’s Issa dress stole the show at her engagement announcement and will go down in royal fashion history. In fact, the dress sold out minutes after the broadcast.

Princess Anne, 1984

Princess Anne wore this quintessential 80s ball

gown twice. Once at the 1984 Berkeley Square Balland again nine years later at a charity performance by the Bolshoi Ballet at the Royal Albert Hall in 1993.

Diana wore this gorgeous turquoise Emanuel designed evening gown during her Australian tour in 1985. But the most famous part of this look is the emerald and diamond headband. It was actually a choker that the queen gifted to Diana for her wedding but Diana clearly had other ideas on how to wear it!
