On Wednesday, Center Parcs were granted planning permission to build their proposed 395-acre holiday resort in Longford. ‘The Longford Forest Village’ will be located near Ballymahon and is expected to be open in summer 2019.
Center Parcs have 5 other holiday villages in the UK and the main attraction of their resorts are huge heated glass-house style swimming pools with water slides and lazy rivers.
Plans for Longford Forest include 470 Lodges – which will accommodate 2,500 guests – 30 apartments, more than 100 indoor and outdoor family activities, a range of restaurants and shops, an Aqua Sana spa and the, of course, the Subtropical Swimming Paradise.
The construction of the new Village will have a significant effect on the Irish economy on a local and national scale. Longford Forest will see around 750 new jobs being created during the construction and a further 1,000 permanent jobs once the Village has opened.CEO of Center Parcs Martin Dalby said:
“Today’s announcement marks another significant milestone in the history of Center Parcs. Since we announced our intention to bring the Center Parcs experience to Ireland last year, we have been overwhelmed by the support we have received, both at local and national level.”
Independent Councillor with Longford County Council Gerry Warnock says the development will provide a welcome boost to the entire midlands region.
“According to Center Parcs, they’re target for opening in summer 2019. The midlands have really locked out in terms of tourism, so this could be just what we need”, he explained.
It’s hoped that Center Parc will also import plenty of sunshine, blue skies and minimum temperatures of 25 degrees all summer long! 😉
